How To Delete Your History On The Internet Explorer Address Bar

Every website you visit your internet explorer bar will save this address for later use unless you delete the information. This is okay for many people that visit the same addresses every day and have no one else on their computer. However, for those that share the computer with others or have family members that desire to know where you have been while you want to keep this private, can be a major problem. Co-workers, bosses, and of course your spouse may be very interested in what you do online. Leaving this information in plain view may not be in your best interest.

You can easily clear your internet explorer history by using this method:
1. Click Tools on your Internet Explorer menu bar
2. Choose Internet Options
3. Now choose the General tab
4. You will see Browsing History – here you can choose to delete temporary files, cookies, saved passwords, and web form information. All you have to do is click Delete history.

When you do this method, you will be erasing everything even the URL cache. This can look very naughty indeed. Then you may be in more trouble especially if your boss or wife are now wondering why you are being so secretive.

You only want to erase the history of the internet explorer address bar without deleting your Internet Explorer history folder. The way to do this is:

1. First, get a backup. This is just in case you delete or change keys or values that you might need. Close all Internet Explorer windows before beginning.
2. Start registry editor – regedit.exe
3. Find this line or key in the registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
4. You can now delete all the URLX such as URL 1, URL 4 that you do not want others to see in your address bar drop down list.
5. Now, close the registry editor.

It’s that simple. If you know other solutions do not hesitate to share.

Could you also just go to your history by clicking the arrow by the forward button and then right-clicking and pressing delete on whatever site necessary. This way you could delete whatever sites you want to. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
